FIFA World Cup 2010

Although the 19th FIFA World Cup finals is 3 years away, there is much excitement around South Africa and preparations are under way to make the tournament a successful one. Five new stadiums are to be built for the tournament (three match venues and two practice grounds), and five of the existing venues are to be upgraded. Public transport infrastructure is also to be improved.
Apparently there is a huge interest (locally and from abroad) in fans wanting to procure tickets for the 64 matches, however, the ticketing system will be controlled by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) and there will be approximately 3,000,000 tickets available. Of those 3,000,000 tickets a third will go to sponsors, the teams and the FIFA family. Another third will go to international visitors and the last million tickets will go to South African residents or possibly residents of Africa.
On the left is the coveted trophy that the teams will be competing for - the current holders of the trophy is Italy (2006 champions). See the video clips (World Cup goals) underneath the official FIFA World Cup 2010 logo on the right.
