"World Cup Rugby Final" Fever (2007)

To the left is the William Webb-Ellis Cup that South Africa and England , the current world cup champions, will be contesting for tomorrow (Saturday 20th October, 2007) at 9pm CAT. World Cup final fever has once again hit South Africa, similarly to that in 1995 when South Africa beat New Zealand on home turf in a nail-biting 15 -12 victory. While South Africa must be considered the favourites to win the cup for a second time tomorrow, especially after SA's 36 - 0 drubbing of England in the pool stages (see the supposed new English jersey, following that game, below), the English should not be underestimated - they have beaten both Australia and France to reach the final. South Africa has received a lot of support from around the world to win the cup and on the other hand England has been criticised for it's "anti-rugby" style of play. One can only speculate that a lot of the criticism of England is a case of "sour-grapes" for defeating more favoured teams in order to reach the final. How one reaches the final is immaterial, as long as the game was won within the rules and regulations of the game. There are a number of email "jokes" doing the rounds like the one below :
"England rugby practice was delayed for two hours this afternoon after a player reported finding a white powdery substance on the practice ground. Head coach Ashton immediately suspended practice while the police were called to investigate.
After a complete forensic search Scotland Yard determined that the white stuff which was unknown to the players was in fact the try line. Practice was continued as police were happy the players were unlikely to encounter the substance
again."

See also the Nando's chicken "ad" doing the rounds. Like most South Africans, I am looking forward to good game of rugby, a few pints, some braaied (barbecued) meat and a Springbok victory.
"Bring it home boys !!!"
